UPM – The Biofore Company
UPM leads the integration of bio and forest industries into a new, sustainable and innovation-driven future. Our products are made of renewable raw materials and are recyclable.
UPM’s Biofore thinking entails that each phase of the product lifecycle, including raw materials, production, distribution, use and disposal, is taken into consideration when assessing the environmental impacts of a product.
UPM aims at minimizing the environmental impact of its products throughout their lifecycle. Making our own processes and the processes of our customers and suppliers more efficient and decreasing the environmental impacts of our products saves everyone’s costs throughout the value chain.
First in FSC
UPM was the first forest owner in Finland to be awarded a certificate to demonstrate compliance with the new FSC standard. The FSC certificate covers around half of UPM’s forests in Finland. UPM’s forests have previously been awarded a PEFC certificate.
The first UPM products manufactured from FSC-certified Finnish raw material became available on the market in the autumn of 2011. UPM also continues to offer PEFC-certified products.
Sustainable Plywood and Wood Products
UPM Plywood and UPM Living have provided the materials to build the Ecodesign 2012 exhibition furniture. The tables and benches as well as the Ecodesign bar have been made of UPM’s WISA®-Ply Transparent plywood and UPM Lamwood panels.
WISA-Ply Transparent offers a beautiful, light visual look of genuine birch veneer with clear or translucent, semi matt finishing. The product is made of certified birch.
UPM Lamwood panels are used by professionals in the furniture and joinery industries. UPM's top quality, sound-knotted lamwood panels are available in certified pine or spruce.
