The Ahead! Design area launched in the Habitare 07 fair in 2007 raised a lot of interest and enthusiasm. Its excellent debut exhibition, Container Village (Konttikylä), was designed by international top designers, architects and artists, each of which designed an installation displayed in a container.
The design manifest written especially for the Container Village by Mirkku Kullberg, CEO of Artek, was the basis of the installations. Each artist has picked one word from the manifest and uses it as the source of inspiration. The words operate as headings for the installations and link the works together. The artists, designers and architects invited to the exhibition include the Dutch revolutionary of the design world Jurgen Bey, French interior architect Bruno Borrione from the office of Philippe Starck, designer Jasper Morrison from the United Kingdom together with Japanese designer Naoto Fukasawa, creator of Diesel Renzo Rosso from Italy together with the creative team of Diesel run by Wilbert Das, Danish designer Morten Voss, and Russian architects Lubov Grosheleva and Denis Leontyev (Ludi Architects). Finland is represented by internationally renowned photographer Ola Kolehmainen, visual artist and pioneer of multimedia Marita Liulia, and designer, interior architect Ilkka Suppanen.
The head designer of the Container Village was interior architect Kaisa Blomstedt, Studio Kaisa B, and it was produced by advertising agency Valo Oy.
